The New, Improved Cyberspace Open
Fall 2010-Winter 2011 Edition
Filename and Cover Page Rule
The only way we can be sure to tell which scene is yours -- and the only way for
you to receive feedback -- is for you to follow the Filename and Cover Page Rule below. Please help us help you by following these simple instructions!
Here is the rule:
Filename:
You receive an order number when you register. You need to save
this order number. The filename of your scene must be in this
format:
ordernumber.yourfirstname.yourlastname.ext
To illustrate: if your name is Jane Smith and the order number of your
entry is 59001 and your file format is Adobe PDF, then the
filename of your scene must be:
59001.jane.smith.pdf
Upper or lower case or a combination is fine. If you are co-authors, use the name of the person who paid.
We strongly suggest:
create this filename and your Cover Page immediately when you register,
not later. Then it is there and that part of the contest is done.
Cover Page:
You must include a Cover Page, and the Cover Page must have the following on it:
- A title
for your scene. A good scene title might or might not help you
advance; that depends on the judge. Otherwise, we don't care what
the title is. You could put "Round 1 by Jane Smith" if you wish.
But to add flair, think of a cool title.
- Your name(s). If there is more than one of you, please put all names on the Cover Page.
- Your email address. You will not receive feedback if it is not on the Cover Page. No exceptions will be made to this*.
- Your order number that you receive when you enter.
- Optional (rule change):A title
for your scene. A good scene title might or might not help you
advance; that depends on the judge. But to add flair, you may want to think of a cool title.
Submissions must be in English and in movie scene format, using
12-point Courier font. The only acceptable file formats are:
- Microsoft Word 97-2003 files (*.doc extension)
- Microsoft Word 2007 files (*.docx extension)
- Adobe PDF file (*.pdf extension)
Why we have this rule:
Every
year, some entrants fail to name their scenes according to the contest
rules AND fail to enter them on the Cover Page (or omit the Cover
Page). When that happens, we don't have any way of
knowing whose scene it is. The status
of such anonymous entries, we are sorry to have to say, is "Hasta la
vista, baby!" -- disqualification without a refund.
By requiring that you identify yourself both in the filename and on the
Cover Page, we are helping you avoid being disqualified for forgetting
both.
You also need to know and agree to all of the rules and the release.

* Your email address
must be on the Cover Page in order for you to receive feedback. The
entry database is not available to judges to look up your address, and
the scoring database is not available to our customer service
staff. This is for security reasons. In addition, to keep contest
fees low, we do not hire the additional customer support staff that
woud be needed
to look up and send feedback emails to each entrant one at a time.
(We use software to efficiently merge e-mail feedback directly to
you from the contest database.) So in order to receive
feedback, you MUST put your email address on your Cover Page.
This contest rule helps us to keep entry fees low.
